Interpersonal Communication

Introduces communication theories affecting interpersonal and small group situations. Students participate in a limited number of group and role-playing activities in order to demonstrate the theoretical aspects of the process of interpersonal communication.

1. Identify theories of interpersonal communication
2. Explain theories of interpersonal communication
3. Describe active listening strategies
4. Apply effective communication principles in experiential learning settings
5. Experiment with a variety of collaborative or teamwork-based presentations
6. Appraise collaborative or teamwork-based presentations
7. Discuss the role of empathy in creating effective group communications
8. Evaluate the effectiveness of various verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
9. Enhance presentations with judicious choices and designs of visual aids (e.g. PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.) .
